A CHILD'S AGE ON JULY 14TH IS HIS/HER AGE FOR THE SEASON

2026 ASC POP WARNER AGE/WEIGHT MATRIX
(Your athlete's age for the season is how old they are by July 14th.)
Divisions and Age/Weight Guidelines:
Rookie Tackle (Ages 5–6)
5 years old: No maximum weight
6 years old: No maximum weight
Mitey Mite (Ages 7–9)
7 years old: No maximum weight
8 years old: No maximum weight
9 years old: Max play weight 75 lbs.
Max ball carrier weight: 105 lbs.
Jr. Peewee (Ages 9–11)
9 years old: No maximum weight
10 years old: Max play weight 130 lbs.
11 years old: Max play weight 100 lbs.
Max ball carrier weight: 130 lbs.
Peewee (Ages 10–12)
10 years old: No maximum weight
11 years old: Max play weight 155 lbs.
12 years old: Max play weight 125 lbs.
Max ball carrier weight: 155 lbs.
Cadet (Ages 11–14)
11 years old: No maximum weight (minimum 155 lbs.)
12 years old: No maximum weight
13 years old: No maximum weight
14 years old: No maximum weight
(8th grade maximum; no high school athletes)
Max ball carrier weight: 185 lbs.
Additional Notes -
Ball carrier weight is determined at the official certification weigh-in, before an athlete can participate in their first game.
Athletes who exceed the ball carrier weight limit will be designated with an orange stripe on their helmet.
Once designated, the orange stripe identifies the athlete as a non-ball carrier for the remainder of the ASCPW season and cannot be removed, regardless of weight changes.
Ball carriers do not get a 1lb. per week allowance. Ball carriers must remain at or below the max. weight for the season.
